. Carbon composition resistors and metal film resistors typically fail as open circuits. Carbon-film resistors typically fail as short circuits.

The resistance of a resistor isn't constant, even if it's a certain material of a fixed length and area: it steadily increases as the temperature increases.

I think why resistor have different sizes is because Resistor size typically only effects how much power it is capable of dissipating without destructive failure

MarvhinMurillo wrote:Do resistors catch fire?
When a resistor has been overloaded with voltage exceeding its power rating, the resistor will become very hot to touch, darken considerably and possibly even melt or catch on fire.

Simple circuits that have a single DC voltage source and a single resistor are the easiest to calculate.jakeryan wrote:What is a simple circuit?

The most common through-hole resistors come in an axial package. The size of an axial resistor is relative to its power rating. A common ½W resistor measures about 9.2mm across, while a smaller ¼W resistor is about 6.3mm long. A half-watt (½W) resistor (above) sized up to a quarter-watt (¼W).Aljerome Masdo wrote:What are the diffenrent sizes of a resistor?

The short answer is "don't do that." The voltage dropped by a resistor is given by Ohm's Law: V = I R. So if you know exactly how much current your device will draw, you could choose a resistor to drop exactly 7.5 V, and leave 4.5 V for your device, when that current is run through it.Aljerome Masdo wrote:How much voltage can I put on the resistor?

Wirewound (WW) These types are made by winding resistance wire in a spiral around a non-conductive core. The resistance wire is usually a nickel-chromium alloy and the core is often ceramic or fiberglass. A coating such as vitreous enamel is used for protection.

resistor is an electrical component that limits or regulates the flow of electrical current in an electronic circuit. Resistors can also be used to provide a specific voltage for an active device such as a transistor.Dave parescal wrote:What is resistor and its use?

Basic Electronics Components. An electronic circuit comprises of various types of components, which are classified into two types: active components like transistors, diodes, IC's; and passive components like capacitors, resistors, inductors, etc.Annalovechumz wrote:what are the electrical/electronic components has resistor?
